The Grand Opening October 9, 2013
A GRAND OLE TIME
Many who attended saw the moving part of B.C.’s history fired to life with the opening of the BC Vintage Truck Museum opened in grand style on October 9, 2013, a bright mid fall evening, on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, the opening being the result of many months of hard work by our dedicated volunteers.  Arriving guests were greeted by two lovingly restored fire engines from the Surrey Fire Department, and a 1910 International Autowagon from the BC Pioneer Truck Society.
Opening MC Roger Bose of Surrey’s farming  pioneer Bose Family enlightened the crowd with a brief history of the collection. Adding to the fascinating story being the collection, the god-daughter of Bob King, the original collector and owner of many trucks in our collection, about how Bob started his trucking business. A tribute and special thanks was given to the late Bill Reid who was the prime mover in bring this collection to Cloverdale in 1987 as part of the B.C. Transportation Museum and again in 2011 to form the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum.

Surrey Heritage Society  Special Events Director Judy Higginbotham arranged and helped put together a wonderful evening of food, drink and entertainment to commemorate this achievement of long volunteer hours that led to the opening of this wonderful place of B.C.’s trucking history.

Also in attendance were City of Surrey Councillors Mary Martin, and Judy Villeneuve. Local  Surrey Cloverdale MLA the Hon. Stephanie Cadieux, (Minister of Children and Families) was joined by the Hon. Shirley Bond (Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training).

The BC Vintage Truck Museum, after the grand day of the opening, has become very busy in the community, our trucks attending the Cloverdale’s  Blueberry Festival, the Cloverdale Rodeo Parade, and is an annual presence in the Santa Parade of Lights. Our trucks have been rented to the movie industry in the Lower Mainland for many locally produced film productions and TV shows.
