Proponents of a heritage transportation centre have found a temporary home for a collection of vintage vehicles they want to bring back to Cloverdale.
The City of Surrey has agreed to lend the Surrey Heritage Society a building on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds to house the new BC Heritage Transportation Centre.
A memorandum of understanding is being worked out permitting the society to use the old Surrey Museum building at 6050 176 Street (the northeast corner of 60 Avenue and 176 Street). The building was more recently home to the Cloverdale Seniors Centre until about a year ago.
The society is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of heritage assets. Members want to relocate the Teamsters Freight Transportation Museum and Archives Collection from Port Coquitlam to Cloverdale.

A GRAND OLE TIME
The BC Vintage Truck Museum held its official grand opening celebration on Wed. October 9th, a perfect fall evening on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. Guests were welcomed by two gorgeous restored Surrey Fire Dept. vehicles along with a 1910 International Auto Wagon from the BC Pioneer Truck Society. MC Roger Bose lightened the crowd up with a brief history of the collection and then the group heard from the original collector Bob King's god daughter about how he started his trucking business. Surrey Heritage Society special events director Judy Higginbotham had put together a wonderful evening of food, drink and entertainment to commemorate the long volunteer hours that enabled the opening of this wonderful piece of trucking history. Special thanks were given to the late Bill Reid who was the moving force in bringing this truck collection to Cloverdale in 1987 as part of the BC Transportation Museum and in 2011 to form the new BC Vintage Truck Museum. The event was attended by a number of local and provincial dignitaries including the Hon. Stephanie Cadieux Minister of Children and Family Development and the Hon. Shirley Bond Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour along with City Councillors Mary Martin and Judy Villeneuve. The Truck collection has been hard at work attending a number of events like the Blueberry Festival, the Langley Cruise-In, the Cloverdale Costume parade and will be a key feature in the upcoming Surrey's Santa Parade of Lights that will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8th in Cloverdale.
The BC Vintage Truck Museum is open on Saturdays from 10am - 2pm and you can find out more about the collection at their new website: bcvintagetruckmuseum.org To find out more information or to volunteer call (604) 372-4093
